Thomas V. Stephen, CPA
Founder and Managing Partner
Tom began his career as a consultant in the national office of Kenneth Leventhal & Company. Prior to forming Thomas Stephen & Company, L.L.P., in 1991, Tom was the V.P. of Finance for Cambridge Companies, Inc. a diversified real estate and Investment Company where he administered the restructuring of approximately 150 real estate projects. Tom has also served on the Southlake City Council (2001 – 2004) and has served on various boards including the Southlake Park Development Corporation, a Tax Increment Finance District, Joint Use Committee and the Carroll Education Foundation. Tom has extensive experience in tax compliance, deal structuring and syndication, non judicial “workouts”, litigation and litigation support, equity and debt financing, complex public financing mechanisms, the affordable housing industry along with many other types of deal related consulting engagements. Tom’s expertise includes partnerships, limited liability companies, corporations, S corporations and trusts. He advises clients in the real estate, hospitality, restaurant, construction, manufacturing & distribution, service and not for profit industries as well as many high net worth entrepreneurs and their related families.
Thomas Katopody, CPA
Tom’s primary practice area is providing a wide range of accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting services to clients in the real estate industry. He is an expert in structuring equity and debt financing and has directed audit and consulting engagements for some of the largest real estate developers in the country. Tom has advised clients with all types of real estate including residential, commercial, industrial, and hospitality properties. He has been deeply involved in all aspects of acquisition, development, construction, disposition, securitization and entity selection for his real estate clients. Tom is also heavily involved in assisting developers of affordable housing in structuring low-income housing tax credit projects.
Bridget Losa, CPA
Bridget brings over 17 years of public accounting experience and expertise to the firm focusing on large accounting projects in the construction, manufacturing, non-profit, and real estate industries. Before her partnership promotion, Bridget was the lead principal of the Dallas audit department responsible for the direct supervision and management of the audit team.
Adrian Alter, CPA
Adrian brings a wealth of experience to the firm. Before retiring in 1986 he was the area managing partner of one of the major national accounting firms. He recently joined Thomas Stephen & Company, LLP as Senior Consultant. As such, he has been involved in a myriad of financial transactions for companies and businesses of all sizes. Adrian is available to the firm and our clients to discuss any type of current or prospective opportunities.
Patrick Dziubla, CPA
Before joining Thomas Stephen & Company, LLP in 2011, Patrick had over six years of auditing experience with one of the top 25 firms in the Dallas area. Patrick has accounting experience in several different industries including privately held manufacturers, distributors, direct sellers, construction companies, and fabricators. Patrick has also worked heavily with 401(k) plans and non-profit organizations subject to A-133 audits including charter schools, school districts, child care centers, teen and adult recovery centers, fraternal organizations, water districts, performing arts centers, homeowners’ associations and various other entities.
Lori Griffith, CPA
Lori joined the firm in 2004 where she has gained extensive experience as an accountant in charge of working with clients in the real estate industry. She has performed annual HUD and for-profit audits for investors of low-income housing tax credit properties, as well as preparing their federal and state income tax returns. She communicates extensively with property management companies to monitor compliance and operations of the client properties. She also works with developers during all phases of construction to prepare tax credit carryovers (10% test), cost certifications (cost segregation analysis), debt service coverage analysis, and other ad hoc projects that are required at set benchmarks during the construction and operations of the project. Lori monitors and directs the entire audit to meet the specific needs of her clients and their investor limited partners. Other areas of specialty include the non-profit industry and homeowner associations. Lori is involved in tailoring the quality control procedures of the firm, as well as assisting with the firm’s peer review.
